Oops, I missed yesterday!

That's ok. The good thing for yesterday was nonexistent, as I had a cold and didn't feel so great. Today's good thing is socks! They saved me, you see, from a dreadful fate that had to await me if I kept working on Icarus. Not that I don't love it. It's just monotonous. I cast on for some socks

Although I'm not sure what they're going to be yet. Nothing on the foot. Probably just plain old socks... though I might make them Dublin bay. Who knows. And I also cast on for Becky's "Molly's Headband."

I know. It's just an i-cord. Get over it. Hmm... that's about all in the knitting department. Actually... that's about all the news. Happy thing for today? The Buckeyes are on! :) Hence the Buckeye Scarlet color of this post. Go Bucks!

Added later: I got my Garden path socks pattern! Yay! Must start pattern... ;) I'll tell you about my adjustments later.

Waiting... rather impatiently...

Well, I still haven't gotten the garden path pattern in the mail... though it did ship a couple days ago so I don't know what's taking so long... I blame the post office. The USPS around here leaves a lot to be desired. I did, however, read about 4/5 of Wendy's book, Wendy Knits, and I found out how she knits socks, always, is toe up, and her basic sock recipe is in that book, so based on that information, and the fact that the entire back of the sock is stockinette and therefore even if I'm wrong, it's adjustable... I decided to go ahead and cast on. I chained like, 38 stitches, and then... I did me a toe. Check it out.

There it is with the crochet chain still unzipped. Note the open book in the background. No way in hell I could do this again without looking....

Here it is on the needles, on top of the two books I used to make it. (That's Lacy Little Knits, I just bought it recently and got it in the mail today. I love it. Ok... so there's not much in there I would make or wear myself but there are some cool stitch patterns, and lots of instructions and how-to's, with pictures. Including picking up a wrapped stitch. See why I found it handy?) And here we have a picture of my wearing the toe. Sorta.

I also found out today the reason my husband should never, ever be allowed to cook, and by found out I mean experienced because I'm getting a serious head cold and found it about as enticing to cook as to, say, crawl through a scorpion pit. This is what it looks like when he's done.

Note: Some of what you're about to see may be painful. Anyone with OCD please avert your eyes.

Admittedly, some of the dishes, the ones in the sink (SOME of them. Not many.) were already there when he started. The cereal box wasn't put away, and... oh, the paw print purse you see at the far left is mine. This is what my kitchen looks like after I cook (and after I've eaten...)

You should note that there is NO SPILLED FOOD on the stove.

See how shiny? And everything is put in it's rightful place. I hate being sick.

Oops, I nearly forgot. Happy thing for today? In the end of CSI and NCIS, everything turned out the way I had hoped. Well... not everything... but the important thing is... you know what? I don't want to spoil it even more in case you haven't seen them. Let's just say that on one show one heart is broken, but on both shows things are probably gonna be okay. Which makes me think maybe everything will be ok. Man I'm glad those shows ended well... ;)

Ready to go down the garden path

Ok, so I haven't gotten my pattern yet, I'm still waiting anxiously. I'm thinking I might get it tomorrow (or technically, today) so, in preparation, I wound my STR Little bunny foo foo yarn into a ball. See?

Don't you love my advanced swift and ball winder? (The swift being an upside down TV tray, the ball winder being my thumb.) After about 15 minutes... ta da! It's a ball!

I'm so excited, I can barely contain myself. I'll update later. :)

Added later: No, my pattern did not come today. *sigh* So sad... Anyway, I might as well add my happy thing for today. Chocolate. Enough said.

Coffee!!!!

Hey, it's post number 100! Awesome! Okay, I don't know what my issue is, but I'm freaking hyper... wow what a lie. I had two cups of coffee this evening. I like coffee. Coffee good. Yum. I went to my mom's tonight to groom her lab, Sadie. She hated me (the dog) until I gave her a cookie afterwards. Then she was my best friend again. While I was there I talked to my mom's friend Stephanie and she told me she wants to have a partylite party, so I'm doing it on November 3rd at 6. I'm so excited. I can't wait to make some money lol. Not much knitting today. I wasn't feeling good, my tummy was upset. I got a couple rows on Icarus in, and that's it. But that's ok. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.

Happy thing for today: Coffee of course!!!!!

What? Only 4 wips?

I can't believe it. What kind of knitter am I? There are some people on ravelry who have like, 50 works in progress. And I only have four. *deep sigh* Guess I need to buy some size 2 dpns so I can cast on for Wendy's Cabletini socks. Or just pick a yarn out of the stash to make my sister a mollys headband (scroll down, it's a pdf) for Christmas. Or buy my mom's str so I can start HER Christmas present. Or... all of the above.

Just so everyone is clear... I worked, like, 8 rows on my MS3 today. It was amazing. I started a row, and minutes later, it was done. I think I was getting burned out on the nearly 300 stitches/row thing.

Happy thing for today: Making new friends. Sounds stupid but... it's awesome. Kinda gives you a high, you know?

P.S. I JUST bought Wendy, ya know, Wendy Knits Wendy's pattern Garden Path Socks! Eeek! Must have smooshy sock yarn...

Long... rows... suck...

Ok, I'm really getting tired of LONG rows. It's taking forever to knit one row... but at the same time I love it. I love everything about this shawl. Angie's probably right, I'd never ever be able to give it away to someone. I mean, I don't think it's possible for me to love someone THAT much that I could put so many hours into something and give it away. I'm gonna show you some pictures... but I'm warning you. You can't see the shape of it (because my needles aren't NEARLY long enough) and you can't see how big it is. The last time I measured (about 6 rows ago?) It was 23 inches down the middle, not stretched, and 46 inches along the neck. I'm just starting the fifth repeat of chart one... which means... I'm thinking like, 76 stitches to add, at four per row, until I'm ready to start the hard stuff. Really, I'll be ok. Right now I have something like 277 stitches. Maybe more. Who knows. Anyway... here's a picture of the whole thing. This is truer to color than some of my other pictures.

And here's a picture of the detail on half of it.

Pretty, no? Hey, look, it's me and Isaac Hanson! And yes, this is my only Hanson pic you all get to see... cause I don't want them all stolen. So please please please don't take it without asking, ok? If you play nice I might let you borrow it.

Happy thing for today: Apple Juice Slushy from Sonic. Made me hyper as hell though.

Seriously quick post

Ok I don't really have anything, at all, to post about (except that both OSU and Atlanta (Braves) won their games today, yay!) But I have to do my good thing for the day and since it's already Sunday... you can tell I'm a little late. My happy thing for the day? Pool. Actually, online pool on yahoo, I love to play with Angie. I'm actually pretty good at it (some times. Hey, it's parenthesis day!). Anyway, more later. Pictures to come (eventually...).

Quickie

Well, there's not much to post about today. Well, there sorta is... I got my November Creative Knitting magazine yesterday, and I finally looked at it today... but there's not really much in it that I like. Except this "Party Season Tunic" thing... that I will never, ever, ever make. It's lacy and gorgeous and I'd look really good in it (I think...) but... yeah it takes two skeins of merino oro, which isn't that much money I guess, and 9 balls of this other yarn made by the same people, you hold them together... but do you have any idea how much YARN that is? That's like... 2600 yarns of lace weight. That would take me about 10 years to knit. So we're not gonna be making it. I do want to knit this hooded sweater in stitch-n-bitch but it doesn't come in my size (it's sized to XL which would fit but probably be uncomfortable) and it's all stockinette so... I might think about it next summer. Anyway, the happy thing for today is my Icarus. I'd take a picture but... it looks EXACTLY the same as before, only it's just a little bit bigger. I'm halfway through the 4th repeat of chart 1... which puts me actually close to the end but... each row takes about a half hour so I may be here awhile. And when I finally cast off it'll take about 6 years so... but that's my happy thing today. How I love my Icarus... well, you've heard. Maybe I'll post pictures soon. Stay tuned.

Casting on

Well, I've finally cast on for Loksins number two. I forgot the real reason I made the cuff so much smaller. I really hate the pattern above the heel. It's so... mono... well it's boring. After the heel I actually found it less boring. Isn't that strange? Anyway... I'm definitely not going to have enough yarn in one skein. But that's ok... except that the only yarn store that's even close to me has CLOSED and I don't think it's reopening. So that just stinks. I'm gonna have to order it but that's not even the issue here. Where will I shop? *deep sigh*

Happy thing for today. Hanson's song "Every Word I say." Got me through the day today, and that's all that counts. Here's a link to a video... but it's crappy... it's the best I could find though, so there ya go.

Solution time

I've finally come to and am ready to deal with a fact of my life right now. I am depressed. So depressed that every night for the past week (except last night) I have cried myself to sleep. Right now I'm sitting here wishing that I had someone, anyone, that I could talk to that could understand me. (I do have two people, but one of them is working and the other one is having dinner, so...) So I've been researching depression, and I remember seeing an idea someone else had. Every day, EVERY DAY, I'm going to write a blog post, even if it's incredibly short, and come up with at least one thing that can always make me happy. Because... making myself think of something that makes me happy will make me think of it, if that makes any sense. And maybe I can use that to help me feel better. I was going to say todays thing is Hanson, because no matter what their music makes me happy but... instead I'm going to say Angie. She's my inspiration, and my best friend... no, scratch that. She's my sister. And no matter how bad things get for me, she's always there, and she has no idea how much that means to me. To try to put it in words... it means the world. Even more than Hanson. (Plus... Hanson made me happy yesterday. I'll talk about the concert sometime soon. Promise.) I love you Angie!

Loksins number 1 is finished!

Ok, wow... I'm the slowest knitter ever. Ok, maybe not, but I just now grafted the toe on my Loksins sock. As soon as I finish posting, I'm casting on for number 2. I swear, I really am. I had to change the pattern a little because I did what her instructions said but it was going to be too big. The way I did it worked... I just think I screwed up grafting the toe. I had two little holes. Maybe I just didn't pull the yarn tight enough... but I fixed it from the inside. It's not the best grafted toe ever but I'm happy enough with it. You can't realy see the pattern no matter now many pictures I take so... deal.

Here's another on my foot...

And, hey, off, the foot.

Saturday was my nephew Zach's fourth birthday party, and the OSU game was on lol. Here's a pretty good picture of my mom and I.

And here's my husband... being a dork... wearing the helmet that we got Zach.

Isn't he hot? lol! Must cast on for second sock.

Jesus in a mango!

Well, the multi-directional scarf is blocking. It's the multi-directional scarf by Karen Baumer, which I found in Ravelry. I made it with either two or three skeins of Paton sws (I've tried to use this yarn so many times that it wasn't in normal skeins anymore and I forget) in the colorway natural pink, and I used size ten needles. I didn't do anything special with the pattern, besides the great yarn race.

Here is is soaking, with snuggles laundry detergent.

And here is is blocking. It's 66 inches long blocked. I've also been working on my Loksins sock. Here it is.

That's the closest picture to the true color, but it's not purpley. It's more red. Heres a blurry picture of it.

And just for Angie: The tiny little stitches.

Sorry, this is the best picture I could get of them. In other news, I got a new radio for my car. Actually, my mom gave me the one out of her old car. It's not as pretty but it works, right? Oh, right, I should update you all on the Braves. Two words. They Suck. Or, no playoffs. Or, big losers. *sigh* We'll get em next year guys.

P.S. I should explain the Jesus in a mango thing... but I'm not gonna. Angie you may have beaten me to using it but... no, there's no but. It's fun though. If you're not Angie, ignore us please. :) Just something funny she said the other day.

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

*gasp* A FO?!

Well, yesterday I finished the Multi directional scarf. It is 60 inches unblocked. I'm hoping that it's longer once I block it... but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed. I'll post blocked pictures later, but here are some unblocked pictures.

I had the great yarn race at the end of the scarf. I seriously didn't think I'd have enough yarn to do the last pattern repeat. I finished with just this much left.

Cool, huh?

Support my sister and the JDRF

This blog entry is to you to ask for your support in a very special cause. My sister is walking on Sunday, September 30th. My site is http://walk.jdrf.org/walker.cfm?id=86715274. Any support you would like to give to JDRF is needed and appreciated.

This year, she'll be taking part in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes along with a half-million other walkers across the country. Our goal: To raise $90 million to help fund research for a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications.

Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes, is a devastating, often deadly disease that affects millions of people--a large and growing percentage of them children.

Many people think type 1 diabetes can be controlled by insulin. While insulin does keep people with type 1 diabetes alive, it is NOT a cure. Aside from the daily challenges of living with type 1 diabetes, there are many severe, often fatal, complications caused by the disease.

That's the bad news... and yes, it's pretty bad.

The good news, though, is that a cure for type 1 diabetes is within reach. In fact, JDRF funding and leadership is associated with most major scientific breakthroughs in type 1 diabetes research to date. And JDRF funds a major portion of all type 1 diabetes research worldwide, more than any other charity.

I'm writing to ask for your support because now more than ever, EACH of us can be a part of bringing about a cure. Each of us can make a real difference

Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as you're able?

Together, we can make the cure a reality.

Please visit her Walk Web page if you would like to donate online or see how close she is to reaching my personal goal:

Small Icarus update, and a new addition

Not much to really blog about knitting-wise. I'm still knitting Icarus, and it's still getting bigger. I'm starting the third repeat of chart one. The second one moved a lot faster than the first one, which doesn't make a lot of sense, except that this time I actually worked on it sometimes rather than just sit and hold it and stare at it. You can't see in the picture, but I swear it's getting bigger. On the neck part, it's 36 inches wide.

In other news, my car got broken into the other day. My stereo was stolen. Apparently a bunch of other people in the complex got robbed. I'm bumming hard. I think I might go to my mom's house tomorrow because she has the stereo that's in her old junky car and she said I could have it. So hopefully my brother-in-law will install it for me.

Anyway, so yesterday, Emmy and I went to Petsmart and I bought myself a betta fish. I spent like, 45 bucks on him. Cause I had to buy an aquarium too. I got a 2 gallon one, and one real plant, the others are fake. Here's a picture of the tank.

And the fishey.

I don't know what to name him. I was going to name him Sirius but... I don't know, it doesn't fit him. So I'm trying to decide, and I'm open for suggestions. (This picture shows his true colors... but I may have made him blind with my flash.)

Lights On 9/11

Please join us on 9/11. We have over two weeks to get
the word out all across this great land we love and call the United
States of America. Let's see how powerful e-mail can be!

On Tuesday, September 11, 2007 everyone in the USA who
will be driving a motor vehicle is asked to drive with their headlights
on during daylight hours. Though no explanation is needed as to why we
are commemorating September 11, we hope more importantly to pay
respect to the victims of that day, show our nation's solidarity and
show support for our men and women of the Armed Forces.
You can help by sending this e-mail on to others!

Labor day weekend, and some knitting content

This weekend was so busy for me! Let's see, Friday I spent the day *after* my root canal at my mom's house. We had a pretty good time. Played a lot of cornhole, which is basically this game with two boards with holes in them that you have to try to get a beanbag in. It's actually a lot of fun. I might buy a cornhole set for next summer from The Buckeye Corner at Easton, it looks like buckeye stadium. It's pretty cool. Anyway, then Saturday Emmy stayed the night, and on Sunday we went to her labor day/fourth of July party (don't ask). That was a ton of Fun. I held her nephew, Joshua.

Ugh, I look horrible in that picture. Anyway, he was sooooo cute. I didn't want to give him back, but he was waking up and hungry, so I had to. Then, yesterday Emmy came over again, and we went swimming with my mom. That was a LOT of fun. Emmy and I went to Easton today, and saw Halloween. Scary ass movie, but not the scariest I've ever seen. And, in between all that, I've been working on Icarus and Loksins. No, not MS3. I can't work on two lace projects and only those. I'd go nuts. What was I thinking with the 48 hour thing?

There's loksins, with a special look at my Underneath Hanson cd from Japan. (Only two weeks to the concert! eeek!) I know it's hard to tell but I promise it's really loksins. I'll have to take some pictures outside so you can see the true color.

And here she is, my baby, my Icarus. How I love thee with your soft smooth yarn and your gorgeous needles... I'm almost ready to start the third repeat of the part of chart one you repeat. Which puts me at about 150 or so stitches. It's getting big. Though it's not nearly as big as it will be. Anyway, I'll leave you with this fun pic of Emmy and I, and I'll also say that if you want to see my labor day pics, feel free. I'm not putting them all on here, but they're fun. Go here.

I'm still alive

Well, yesterday was interesting. The root canal part went fine. But I think because of the Novocaine or whatever, and my nerves, it made me sick to my stomach. I was violently sick, like 4 times. And I just felt nauseous most of the day. I still feel funny... but I barely ate yesterday, so that's probably why. I still have to go back and get a crown. *rolls her eyes* Like I have that kind of money... but in order for him to do the root canal he had to take off a lot of the tooth and he said without a crown it could just break and then I'd have to have it pulled. Anyway, so Dr. Joel comes in and sits down and says "I can see you're a little nervous, I just want you to know you're in good hands, and you'll be fine, ok?" And I'm like "Really, you can tell?" While my hands are shaking so bad that it looked like I was... I don't know but I was REALLY shaking. The root canal wasn't so bad cause they let me listen to Hanson and that calms me down.

Anyway, my 48 hours with Loksins is definitely over. I'm almost done with the gussets. Didn't get much done at my mom's house last night, mostly because of the boys. They were wanting us to play all day. I'm gonna work on MS3 and Icarus the next couple of days.
